Cornish Gansey Squares Part 4: Polperro-Musician

Posted on

Hi Guys,

It's the last part of my four part Gansey Square series for 3 Bags Full and Syrian Refugees. This week, I have adapted a Polperro pattern called Musician. Mary explained to me that none of the patterns have any real names and these names given in her book Cornish Guernseys & Knitfrocks were taken from either a location or feature of each photograph used for her reference points. In this case, the photo for this stitch pattern shows a band of children who have musical instruments. One of the young boys wears this pattern across his gansey, thus, she named the pattern- Musician.

Many knitters love this pattern, an attractive wave picked out in purls and it remains a perenial favourite. It possibly needs more concentration and attention to the pattern instructions than the others as it is not such a simple repeat but please try it because the resulting square is delightful.

Anyhow, here are the chart and written instructions. Remember it's 3.5mm needles and DK weight yarn to acheive a 6.5in square size.
